Significance of the festival

It is believed that following the colour code brings good luck, blessings, and prosperity. One must wear clothes which are of the designated colour corresponding to the day if they want these in their life. This practise is most ardently followed by the devotees of Goddess Durga in India. Religiously speaking, each colour represents one quality of Goddess of power and strength – Goddess Durga. She is believed to have defeated a demon after a nine-day battle, and hence Navratri is celebrated as a victory of good over evil. Navratri celebrates female energy, prosperity, victory and showcases nine displays of feminine power to the world. It ends in another festival, Dusshera or Vijayadashami i.e. the tenth day of the festivities. 

9 Colours 

The most widely celebrated Indian festival, Navratri is celebrated differently in different parts of India. Some people do Indian folk dance, some do Durga Puja, and others wear different colors on different days. Every color has a uniqueness and a meaning that it represents. This year Navratri falls from 7th to 15th October and the colors are in order of yellow, green, gray, orange, white, red, royal blue, pink, and purple, on the respective days.

Green

Green stands for aspects of nature and its nourishing qualities. It represents fresh energy, growth, wisdom, harmony, new beginnings, and knowledge. 

Gray

The colour gray foretells a period of transition. In the context of Navratri, it means the strength of transforming. If you surround your space with the colour grey, then you will find readiness and determination to fight against evil and will develop a zeal of the fighting spirit. 

Orange
